Governor Sule Explains Shift in Stance on Controversial Tax Reforms Bill

Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has revealed why he reversed his position on the controversial tax reforms bill, stating that his initial concerns about the bill have been addressed.

Speaking during an appearance on Channels TV’s Politics Today, Governor Sule, who was initially among the northern political leaders opposing the bill, clarified that the opposition was not against tax reforms but the bill’s original content.

“Our goal was to ensure that the bill underwent thorough discussion before being passed. That has now been achieved,” Sule said.

The governor praised the House of Representatives, particularly Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, for their handling of the bill, emphasizing that their actions have allowed for further review and refinement.

“We wanted the bill to be further discussed and not passed in its original form. Now, there are opportunities for further review, and I commend the House of Representatives, particularly the speaker, for the way they have handled the issue,” he added.

Governor Sule expressed satisfaction with the current legislative scrutiny of the bill, attributing the shift in his stance to the lawmakers’ commitment to addressing the concerns raised by him and others.

This development signals progress in achieving a consensus on tax reforms that balance government revenue generation with fairness and transparency.
