Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal has disclosed that his administration has not borrowed a single kobo to finance the state’s development projects, crediting strategic planning and fiscal discipline for the progress recorded nearly two years into his tenure.
Speaking during a media parley held in Gusau on Wednesday, Governor Lawal provided an update on the performance of his government since assuming office in 2023. He said the successes achieved across sectors such as security, infrastructure, education, healthcare, and economic empowerment were accomplished without incurring debt.
“We have not taken a single loan since the beginning of this administration,” Lawal declared. “What we’ve achieved so far is through careful resource management and a strong commitment to good governance.”
On security, the governor said the state had seen marked improvement, attributing it to effective collaboration with security agencies.
“Zamfara’s security situation today is far better than what we inherited in 2023. Banditry and related crimes have drastically reduced due to proactive engagement with security forces,” he noted.
Lawal also spotlighted the Urban Renewal Project, which includes road construction, renovation of schools, and rehabilitation of healthcare facilities in all 14 local government areas. He said the project is central to his administration’s vision of modernizing Zamfara.
Looking ahead, the governor emphasized the untapped potential of Zamfara’s solid minerals sector, adding that improved security would unlock new economic opportunities.
“We’re putting in place the framework to ensure that our solid minerals drive the state’s economic diversification,” he said.
Governor Lawal reaffirmed his commitment to transparency and accountability, assuring citizens that more impactful projects would follow as part of a debt-free, sustainable development plan.
“We are just getting started. Our goal is to ensure Zamfara becomes a model of sustainable development without being weighed down by debt,” he concluded.
