Governor Alia Urges FG to Address Insecurity After 56 Killed in Benue

Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, has called for urgent federal intervention to address the escalating insecurity in the state, following deadly attacks in Ukum and Logo Local Government Areas that left at least 56 people dead.

During a visit to the affected communities in the Sankera axis on Saturday, Governor Alia condemned the violent and senseless killings carried out by suspected armed militias. He described the attacks as “unacceptable” and urged the federal government to intervene swiftly and decisively to stop the bloodshed.

“The killings are unacceptable. The federal government must intervene swiftly and decisively to end this carnage,” Alia stated. He offered condolences to the grieving families and assured residents of his administration’s commitment to restoring peace and protecting lives.

While calling on the people of Benue to remain calm, Alia strongly discouraged any form of reprisal or self-help, stressing the need for lawful resolutions and better security collaboration.

In response to the attacks, security forces have been deployed to the affected areas, and emergency services along with relief materials have been provided to the communities.

The attacks in Ukum and Logo are the latest in a series of violence in the state, often attributed to suspected herdsmen operating in the region’s volatile areas.
