Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, has strongly criticized the Federal Government’s economic policies, stating that they are worsening hardship for Nigerians.
Speaking on Thursday at a meeting of the National Reconciliation Committee of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Bauchi, Fintiri lamented the economic downturn, urging the government to reconsider its policies. The meeting was attended by the Governors of Bauchi and Taraba, alongside the acting PDP National Chairman.
“Nigeria is bleeding, we are suffering, there is too much anger, and the economic policy is not working,” Fintiri said. “We always call on the Federal Government to rethink policies that only deepen hardship.”
He stressed that governing is a privilege entrusted by God and must be carried out with responsibility and trust.
Urging the Federal Government to focus on people-friendly policies, Fintiri warned against foreign-influenced economic decisions. “Whatever will make us cry must not be part of your policy because the country belongs to us. It does not belong to the World Bank, IMF, or the international community,” he added.
On PDP’s internal unity, Fintiri assured that North-East PDP governors would collaborate to strengthen the party in the region. He highlighted PDP’s dominance in the 2023 presidential election, asserting that the party won in every North-East state except Borno, a result he questioned.
“There is no state in the zone that PDP lost. Even in Borno, we are still wondering how we lost that election because we know we didn’t lose it,” he stated.
The Chairman of the National Reconciliation Committee, Olagunsoye Oyinlola, also addressed the party’s past electoral losses, attributing them to internal disunity.
“We are here to engage our leadership and members to identify our shortcomings and correct them for the future,” Oyinlola said.
