Gov Diri Gets PDP Gov’ship Ticket For Second Term 

The incumbent governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Douye Diri, has been declared the winner of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship primary election held on Wednesday in Yenagoa, the state capital.

The chairman of the PDP Electoral Committee for Bayelsa State Gubernatorial Primary Election, Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State declared Senator Diri the winner of the primary with 305 votes.  According to Senator Adeleke, a total number of 315 delegates were accredited and the total votes cast were 313. He said, “Having satisfied the requirements of this election and having scored the highest number of votes, I Senator Ademola Jackson Adeleke by the power vested in me as the chairman and chief returning officer, I hereby declare Senator Douye Diri as the winner of the election. I, therefore, return him as the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the November 2023 election.”

In his acceptance speech, the Bayelsa State governor, Senator Diri, said that the election was the best primary in the history of PDP in Bayelsa State, adding that the party was growing stronger on daily basis. He acknowledged the delegates for all the processes they underwent as stipulated by INEC in nominating a governorship candidate, adding that being the only aspirant was an unprecedented turn of events in the state.
