Starting July 14 through August 18, the MTA will suspend G train service between Court Square and Bedford-Nostrand Avenues on select weeknights and weekends as it resumes its ongoing signal modernization project.
During the service disruptions, free shuttle buses will operate between Court Square and Bedford-Nostrand Avenue, making all local stops to accommodate affected passengers. G trains will continue to run between Church Avenue and Bedford-Nostrand Avenue as normal.
This temporary suspension is part of the MTA’s multi-phase effort to upgrade the G line’s aging signal system, originally installed in the 1930s, to a modern Communications-Based Train Control (CBTC) system. The new technology is expected to improve reliability and frequency for the line’s 160,000 daily riders.
Last summer, G train commuters faced extensive service interruptions during earlier phases of the modernization effort. Since then, three additional phases of round-the-clock outages have been completed, moving the project closer to its goal.
Once finished, the $368 million initiative will make the G train the third line in the New York City subway system to operate fully on CBTC, joining the L and 7 lines.
Closure Schedule:
- Weeknights: 9:45 PM to 5:00 AM
- Weekends: 9:45 PM Friday to early Monday morning
Riders are advised to plan ahead and allow for extra travel time.
