Former Taraba State Governor Darius Ishaku has been arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) due to allegations of fraud amounting to N27 billion. Ishaku, who completed his eight-year tenure in 2023, was taken into custody at his Abuja residence in the early hours of Friday.
Sources within the EFCC reported that Ishaku remains detained as of Friday night. The commission has filed at least 15 counts of charges against him, based on evidence collected during an ongoing covert investigation initiated after his departure from office. An EFCC insider noted, “There is a lot of financial malfeasance he perpetrated during his tenure.”
Another source revealed that Ishaku’s detention followed his inability to provide satisfactory explanations for the financial irregularities that transpired during his administration. EFCC spokesman Dele Oyewaleconfirmed the arrest of Ishaku but declined to share further details.
This incident comes amid the EFCC’s continued investigations into alleged financial misconduct by other former governors, including Yahaya Bello of Kogi State, who faces accusations of embezzling N80.2 billion.
