Rochas Okorocha, the former governor of Imo State and a presidential aspirant for the All Progressives Congress, was denied bail by the Federal High Court in Abuja.
This comes days after the Senator’s home was raided and he was detained by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Okorocha was arrested and detained for skipping bail in a corruption case, according to the anti-graft agency.
In a Friday ruling, Justice Inyang Eden Ekwo declined to order the panel to release him from detention.
The lawmaker representing Imo West Senatorial District had filed an ex-parte application in which he based his bail request on the fact that he is a presidential aspirant under the All Progressives Congress (APC), adding that he is also a presidential aspirant under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The lawmaker representing Imo West Senatorial district had filed an ex-parte application in which he justified his bail request by claiming that he is a presidential aspirant under the All Progressives Congress (APC) and that his political ambitions would be threatened if he was not given bail.
In his ruling on the bail application, Justice Ekwo stated that he was not inclined to grant him to bail.
The judge instead ordered the former Governor of Imo State to put the Federal Government on notice to come and defend his detention.
Okorocha was scheduled to be arraigned twice before the same judge on N2.9 billion money-laundering accusations, but he refused to appear in court both times.
