Fix the Economy or Face Ballot Revolt in 2027, Ohanaeze Warns Tinubu

Apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has warned President Bola Ahmed Tinubu that worsening economic hardship and insecurity could derail his chances of securing a second term in the 2027 general elections.

In a strongly worded statement issued on Thursday in Abakaliki, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, National Deputy President of Ohanaeze, said Nigerians are “wiser now” and may revolt at the polls if the current hardship continues unchecked.

“President Tinubu must face the reality of worsening hunger, poverty, and insecurity in the country,” Isiguzoro said.
“If their grievances remain ignored, your re-election campaign will face a revolt at the ballot box.”

He accused state governors of shielding the president from the truth with empty assurances while Nigerians suffer under soaring food prices, rising electricity tariffs, and deteriorating public services.

Isiguzoro also warned that northern governors may ultimately side with their distressed constituents rather than deliver votes for the APC, while their southern counterparts may prioritize their own political survival over Tinubu’s second-term ambition.

To reverse public discontent and regain political momentum, Ohanaeze called on the president to:

·         Slash electricity tariffs

·         Restructure his economic team

·         Reduce government waste

·         Prioritise agricultural development and infrastructure

Isiguzoro urged Tinubu to emulate young visionary African leaders, such as Burkina Faso’s Captain Ibrahim Traoré, who he said are focusing on self-reliance and food security.

“Ohanaeze warns that the current hardship is unsustainable,” the statement concluded.
“Without bold and immediate action, the path to 2027 will be paved with discontent and disillusionment.”
