Five people were stabbed in central Amsterdam on Thursday in a broad daylight attack that prompted a rapid police response. Dutch authorities say the suspect was arrested shortly after the incident and is currently being treated for a leg injury sustained during his apprehension.
Among the injured are two American citizens, a 67-year-old woman and a 69-year-old man, as well as a 26-year-old Polish man, a 73-year-old Belgian woman, and a 19-year-old Dutch woman, according to officials.
In a statement, Dutch police said the motive for the attack remains unclear and is under active investigation. Authorities are exploring the possibility that the victims were randomly targeted.
