Fresh FM Nigeria has confirmed that its headquarters at Challenge, Ibadan, was engulfed by a devastating fire on Friday evening, August 15, 2025, leaving extensive damage across its broadcasting complex.
In a statement signed by the Group Head of Corporate Affairs, Mr. Samson Akindele, the station described the incident as a “devastating inferno” that ravaged key facilities, including the studios of Fresh 105.9 FM and Blast 98.3 FM, adjoining offices, the newsroom, transmitter and server rooms, as well as vital broadcast equipment.
The fire, which erupted while the station was in active operation, proved too intense for staff to contain with in-house extinguishers before the arrival of firefighters. Though the exact cause is yet to be established, an official damage assessment is ongoing.
Despite the setback, the management expressed gratitude to residents, passersby, and officials of the Oyo State Fire Service for their prompt intervention in preventing further destruction. “We heartily appreciate all good-spirited Nigerians who stood by us during the emergency,” the statement read, highlighting the solidarity shown by the public.
Founded by veteran gospel singer Dr. Yinka Ayefele, Fresh FM has grown into one of the most influential private radio stations in South-West Nigeria. Its Ibadan headquarters remains the hub of its expanding network.
Management assured listeners and stakeholders that updates on the cause of the fire and the extent of damage would be communicated as investigations unfold.
The tragedy comes just as Fresh FM was preparing to mark its 10th anniversary of broadcasting, a milestone that underscores its journey from the controversial 2018 partial demolition of its Music House complex by the Oyo State government to becoming a household name across Oyo State and beyond.
