The Federal Government has urged Nigerians living abroad to return and contribute to the nation’s progress and prosperity. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, the Chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), made this appeal during the 12th Convocation lecture at Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti (ABUAD), on Saturday.
Delivering her lecture titled “Diaspora Engagements for National Development,” Dabiri-Erewa stressed the importance of Nigerians abroad bringing their skills and experiences back home to help tackle the socio-economic challenges hindering Nigeria’s growth. She emphasized that diaspora engagement is crucial for fostering national development and urged Nigerians overseas to take advantage of the many opportunities available within the country.
Dabiri-Erewa highlighted the potential of Nigerians in the diaspora, many of whom have excelled globally, as vital resources for addressing Nigeria’s challenges. She noted that NIDCOM is actively working to create frameworks that will enhance the involvement of the diaspora in the country’s development efforts.
The founder of ABUAD, Afe Babalola, praised Dabiri-Erewa for her insightful lecture and encouraged young Nigerians to reconsider leaving the country for greener pastures abroad. He emphasized that Nigeria is rich in human and natural resources, urging the youth to focus on building the nation from within.
