FG to Disburse Over ₦1bn Grants to MSMEs Under 2026 Natonal Awards

The Federal Government has announced plans to allocate over ₦1 billion to Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) under the 2026 National MSME Awards, signalling a shift toward direct financial support for businesses.

Senior Special Adviser to the President on Job Creation and MSMEs, Temitola Adekunle-Johnson, revealed the details during a briefing in Abuja on Tuesday. The application portal will open on April 7 and close on May 7.

Tagged “Renewed Hope for MSMEs”, the 2026 edition prioritises grants to drive business growth, moving away from previous rewards like cars, houses, or shops. Adekunle-Johnson explained that more beneficiaries will now receive grants beyond the top three winners in each category.

Winners will also access mentorship programmes, post-award advisory services, and new market opportunities. Outstanding MSMEs may even be supported to participate in international exhibitions. The awards will recognise innovation, creativity, employment generation, and the use of technology across sectors.

The grand finale is scheduled for June 27, coinciding with the United Nations World MSME Day.

Highlighting compliance, Mrs Sarah Ajayi noted that applicants must provide regulatory approvals, tax records, certifications, and quality video presentations showcasing production processes and value addition.

Adekunle-Johnson acknowledged past challenges with poor-quality applications and promised improved awareness and transparency in selection. Stakeholders pledged to support credible selection, regulatory compliance, and effective post-award mentorship to enhance MSME growth and sustainability nationwide.
