The Federal Government announced the resumption extension on Sunday through the Ministry of Transportation.
Though he did not say when the services would resume, Mu’azu Sambo, the Minister of Transportation, stated that it would not be long before the train service resumed.
The government earlier announced that train services between Abuja-Kaduna would resume before the end of November 2022.
When terrorists attacked and abducted scores of passengers travelling to Kaduna in March 2022, the Nigerian Railway Corporation suspended its services on the route. Scores of people were killed in the attack.
Those who had been kidnapped were eventually released in batches. The government had since declared through the Managing Director of Nigeria Railway Corporation, Fidet Okhiria, that it would not resume services on the route until the situation report from the incident is satisfactory.
However, with three days until the end of the month, Sambo told newsmen in Kaduna on Sunday that the station’s resumption of operations has been extended.
The Minister made the announcement following an inspection tour to assess the state of readiness between Abuja-Kaduna rail services before the commencement of operations.
According to the minister, the FG has implemented a new ticket purchasing system, which he describes as the start of security checks, adding that it will allow them to determine who boards the train at any given time.
