FG Declares March 31 and April 1 Public Holidays for Eid-el-Fitr

The Rivers State Government has announced the suspension of all political office holders in the state, particularly those appointed by the suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

The affected officials include:

  • Secretary to the State Government (SSG)
  • Chief of Staff
  • Commissioners
  • Board chairpersons and members
  • Officials in agencies, commissions, institutions, and parastatals
  • Special advisers, special assistants, and senior special assistants

This decision follows the authority granted to the Rivers State Administrator, Vice-Admiral Ibok Ibas (retd.), by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu after declaring a state of emergency in Rivers State.

The announcement was made in an official statement titled: “The Rivers State Government Announces the Suspension of Political Office Holders and Appointees in Rivers State” and was signed by the Chief of Staff to the Administrator.

According to the statement, the suspension takes effect from Wednesday, March 26, 2025, and all affected officials are directed to handover to the Permanent Secretaries in their respective MDAs. In cases where there is no Permanent Secretary, the most senior director or head of administration will take charge.

Vice-Admiral Ibas assumed office last week following President Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State. The emergency, announced during a national broadcast, led to the suspension of Governor Fubara, Deputy Governor Ngozi Odu, and all elected members of the Rivers State House of Assembly.
