The Federal Government has given the green light for the construction of two new dams in Lafia and Tide, alongside the completion of the Farin Ruwa hydropower, irrigation, and water supply project in Nasarawa State.
Governor Abdullahi Sule disclosed the approval during the State Executive Council meeting held on Friday at the Government House. He presented an official letter from the Federal Ministry of Water Resources and Sanitation, signed by Minister Engr. Prof. Joseph Terlumun Utsev, which seeks state support in community sensitisation, compensation, and security at the project sites.
The Council also reviewed a letter from the Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dr. Dele Alake, seeking approval for Nasarawa to host the 6th National Council on Mining and Mineral Resources Development in Lafia by August 2025. Dr. Alake commended Nasarawa’s growing role in the solid minerals sector and indicated flexibility in scheduling the event.
Governor Sule announced a proposed presidential visit scheduled between June 16 and 25. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is expected to commission several state projects during this visit, prompting the Governor to direct council members to prepare accordingly.
On infrastructure developments, Governor Sule informed the Council about a ₦9.75 billion refund from the Federal Government following its takeover of Usman Dan Fodio Airport (formerly Lafia Airport). The funds will be allocated to complete the Kwandere–Sabon Gida Road, an essential access route to the airport.
Governor Sule also officially handed over state affairs to his deputy, Dr. Emmanuel Akabe, ahead of his 10-day pilgrimage to Makkah, urging full cooperation with the Acting Governor during his absence.
