Former Ekiti State governor, Kayode Fayemi, has refuted claims by ex-Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, that both men jointly founded the African Democratic Congress (ADC) coalition before opening it to other political figures.
In a statement on Sunday, Fayemi’s media head, Ahmad Sajoh, said there is “no credible evidence” to support Amaechi’s account, stressing that no video or reputable media report confirms it. He urged Nigerians to be wary of unverified social media claims, warning they are often distorted or fabricated.
Amaechi, speaking during a X Spaces conversation on Saturday, had alleged the coalition “started with me and Fayemi in the house of Nasiru Danu with Salihu Mohammed and others.” He said the meeting initially aimed at reconciling him with Fayemi later expanded to include politicians such as Aminu Tambuwal, former Sokoto State governor, and that a committee led by Liyel Imoke, ex-Cross River State governor, eventually settled on ADC as the platform after weighing options like AA and Accord.
But Sajoh maintained Fayemi is “a committed member and leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti State,” actively backing Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s re-election bid. While Fayemi often holds political discussions across party lines, Sajoh said such talks “do not signify defection.”
“If Dr. Fayemi were to leave the APC, he would make it public and not require a third party to do so,” Sajoh stated. “We reiterate: Dr. Fayemi remains a principal member of the APC and is fully behind the party in the forthcoming gubernatorial election in Ekiti State.”
