Ex-footballer Arrested By NDLEA For Smuggling Cocaine Into Nigeria

An ex-footballer has been arrested by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for smuggling cocaine into Nigeria.

This was announced on Sunday by the NDLEA’s spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, in a statement.

The ex-footballer who was apprehended at Lagos International Airport was eventually identified as Okafor Emmanuel Junior, according to an NDLEA statement.

According to the footage posted by an NDLEA official, the cocaine weighing 1.40kg was cleverly disguised in metal.

Sharing the video of how the drugs were concealed, Babafemi wrote on Twitter: “Video shows how an ex-footballer imported cocaine into Nigeria. Just imagine the time and energy it takes to conceal this when you know there’s no guarantee ⁦@ndlea_nigeria ⁩ officers won’t unravel you. Another one busted at Lagos airport. Details coming shortly.”

Another video shared on the NDLEA handle also revealed that its officers at the Lagos airport discovered cocaine concealed in bag handles by the ex-footballer and black cocaine in bags’ false bottom by another Brazilian returnee.

The NDLEA stated further that the arrested ex-footballer is a 33-year-old indigene of Arochukwu Local Government Area of Abia State.

He was arrested on Monday, 26th September, 2022.

Recall that the NDLEA announced the seizure of 1.8 tonnes of cocaine worth “N194 billion” in Ikorodu, Lagos state, roughly two weeks ago.

The NDLEA’s Spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, said this on Monday.

The operation which was described as the “biggest singular cocaine seizure” in the agency’s history was carried out at a warehouse in the Ikorodu area of the state.

According to the statement, amongst those arrested by the NDLEA is a Jamaican identified as Kelvin Smith who is part of an international drug syndicate.
