Enugu Ex-SSG, Dan Shere, Other Hostages Regain Freedom Two Days After

The former secretary to the Enugu State Government (SSG), Dan Shere, has been released two days after being kidnapped by an unknown group of gunmen.

The medical doctor was one of several people kidnapped on Thursday along the Enugu-Ugwuogo Nike-Nsukka Road.

They were on their way to Nsukka for a meeting when gunmen ambushed their vehicle and kidnapped Shere and other passengers.

One of the survivors of the incident had told newsmen earlier that the assailants were about eight in number. The individual while sharing details of the event in a viral video clip, thanked God for saving him and four others from the incident, adding that one of the passengers was hit by a bullet.

However, just hours after the incident, Shere and the other hostages were freed, sparking joy throughout the Nsukka town.

Many residents were present at Shere’s residence yesterday, where a wild celebration was held.

However, it is unclear whether ransom was paid for the release of Shere and how much was involved. However, the Enugu State Government reportedly moved bulldozers into the area Saturday morning, clearing the dense forest.
