Emir Sanusi Urges Peace Amid Kano Emirship Dispute

Muhammadu Sanusi II, the Emir of Kano, has called on residents to uphold peace, law, and stability as tensions persist over his reinstatement.

Speaking at a special Iftar (breaking of fast) at his palace on Sunday, Sanusi condemned opposition to his return, declaring that those resisting it were challenging God’s will.

“This issue is beyond us; it is about God’s will, and He needs no one’s assistance. May fire consume anyone seeking to cause trouble in Kano,” he stated.

Sanusi urged the people to remain patient and prayerful, assuring that divine support is with those on the right path.

His comments come as Governor Abba Yusuf directed all four emirates in Kano to begin preparations for the Sallah Durbar, a traditional festival held during Eid celebrations.

Meanwhile, Aminu Ado Bayero, the deposed Emir of Kano, has informed security agencies of his intention to hold a durbar and mark his fifth anniversary as monarch, escalating the long-standing leadership dispute.

The crisis dates back to May 2024, when a Kano High Court restrained Bayero from parading himself as Emir after the state government reinstated Sanusi. However, tensions over the emirship remain high, with both camps asserting their claims.
