El-Rufai: I no longer recognize the APC, Criticizes Party Leadership

Former Kaduna State Governor Nasir el-Rufai has voiced dissatisfaction with the direction of the All Progressives Congress (APC), saying his distance from the party is growing due to its failure to adhere to its core values.

Speaking at a national conference on strengthening democracy in Abuja on Monday, el-Rufai, an APC chieftain, lamented that the party has strayed from its foundational goals of tackling corruption, boosting the economy, and enhancing security.

“As a founding member of APC, I no longer recognize the party. It has left me behind. No party organ has met in two years; it’s being run like a one-man show,” el-Rufai said. “The problems we sought to address remain unsolved, but I no longer believe the APC is committed to solving them.”

He also criticized the party’s leadership, calling for better accountability and leadership, citing issues like illiteracy and incompetence among party leaders.

El-Rufai pointed out the challenges faced by opposition parties, including alleged internal sabotage in the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and the Labour Party. He expressed concern that these parties might be intentionally undermined.

There are growing speculations that el-Rufai is exploring other political avenues after his failed ministerial confirmation by the Senate, which declined to approve his appointment due to petitions against him.
