EFCC Releases Suspended Accountant-General

Ahmed Idris, the suspended Accountant-General of the Federation, has been released from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s custody.

Idris was detained by the EFCC for his suspected involvement in a N174 billion scam.

Idris was reportedly released on bail by the anti-graft agency on Wednesday night in Abuja, and he has since been reunited with his family.

Wilson Uwujaren, a spokesman for the EFCC, confirmed the development in an interview with Punch on Thursday morning.

“The suspended Accountant-General is out on bail,” Uwujaren remarked. On Wednesday night, he was released.”

Idris was arrested on May 16th in connection with a series of frauds estimated to be worth N84 billion at the time.

Days after his arrest, Zainab Ahmed, the Minister of Finance, Budget, and National Planning, suspended him to enable him to face charges.

During interrogation, Idris was said to have mentioned names, companies, and a large sum of money that is now under investigation.

He also confessed and supplied evidence of funds, withdrawals, and deposits in both local and international currencies.

Abdulaziz Yari, the former governor of Zamfara State, and Anthony Yaro, the Chairman and Managing Director of Finex Professional, were both arrested as a result of this incident.
