Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, convened a pivotal security meeting in Iyamho, Etsako West Local Government Area on Tuesday, bringing together key figures to tackle the rising security issues in Edo North. The meeting included political, religious, and traditional leaders, as well as heads of security agencies and other stakeholders, to strategize on improving security across the region.
Following the closed-door meeting, Governor Okpebholo reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to maintaining peace and security in the state, declaring that criminal elements would not be allowed to destabilize Edo State. He pledged to take decisive action to rid the state of criminal activities and ensure it remains unwelcoming for lawbreakers.
Notable attendees included Blessing Agbebaku, Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly (EDHA), former Governor and current Senator for Edo North, Adams Oshiomhole, Abubakar Momoh, Minister for Regional Development, and Philip Shaibu, former Deputy Governor of Edo State. The gathering also included security chiefs, traditional leaders, and other important stakeholders.
Governor Okpebholo described the meeting as essential for ensuring peace in Edo North, emphasizing the productive discussions that led to actionable solutions. He expressed optimism about the region’s future, saying, “We came here for a peaceful discussion regarding security… things will be perfect in our land.”
Adams Oshiomhole lauded the Governor for his proactive security measures, including equipping security agencies with vehicles and motorbikes. He also underscored the importance of community involvement in maintaining security, encouraging local cooperation with law enforcement.
Bishop Gabriel Dunia of the Catholic Diocese of Auchi also praised the efforts, calling for continued collaboration among stakeholders to uphold peace in the state. Traditional rulers, such as His Royal Highness Ali Suleiman of Edo North, expressed their confidence in the Governor’s leadership and vowed to work closely with security agencies to improve safety.
The meeting marked a significant step in addressing the region’s security challenges, with Governor Okpebholo’s hands-on approach and the collective support of various leaders signaling a renewed commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of all Edo residents.
