Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, has suspended three commissioners for one month over absenteeism and sacked two senior aides for alleged gross misconduct.
The affected commissioners—Solomon Azi (Grants and Donor Agencies), Victor Chukwu (Environment), and Ikeuwa Omebe (Rural Development)—were penalized for failing to attend Monday’s State Executive Council meeting without prior permission.
Announcing the suspensions on Tuesday, the Commissioner for Information and State Orientation, Jude Okpor, said the governor had previously warned against absenteeism and a lackadaisical attitude among public servants. During the suspension, the commissioners will be stripped of all privileges associated with their offices.
Additionally, Governor Nwifuru sacked Felix Okemini, his Senior Special Assistant on Security (Ebonyi North Senatorial District), and Nnanna Nwangele, his Special Assistant on Airport Security, citing gross misconduct.
In a statement issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Grace Umezurike, the governor ordered the dismissed aides to hand over government property in their possession by the close of work on Tuesday. He also barred them from the Government House and future government activities.
Meanwhile, the governor directed all contractors handling state projects to accelerate their work, warning that legal measures would be enforced to ensure compliance with contractual agreements.
