In anticipation of the upcoming celebrations of Good Friday and Easter Monday, the Federal Government of Nigeria has announced Friday, March 29, and Monday, April 1, 2024, as public holidays.
The declaration, aimed at facilitating observance of these religious occasions, was conveyed by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, through a statement issued by the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Aishetu Ndayako, on Wednesday.
Minister Tunji-Ojo emphasized the significance of Easter beyond its religious connotations, highlighting its role in promoting values of love, forgiveness, and compassion.
These virtues, he noted, are crucial for fostering social cohesion and harmony within Nigerian society, contributing to enhanced unity and cooperation among citizens.
Encouraging Christians to internalize these values, the Minister underscored their potential to positively impact Nigeria’s socio-economic development.
By cultivating a culture of unity, conflict reduction, and cooperation, individuals can contribute to national progress and prosperity, aligning with the government’s agenda for sustainable development.
Furthermore, Minister Tunji-Ojo urged Nigerians to demonstrate acts of charity and generosity, particularly towards the less privileged members of society. Recognizing the importance of collective responsibility in addressing societal challenges, he called for solidarity and compassion towards those in need, emphasizing the transformative potential of such gestures in improving livelihoods and fostering inclusivity.
As the nation prepares to commemorate Easter, Minister Tunji-Ojo extended warm wishes to Christians both within the country and abroad, expressing hopes for a joyful and fulfilling celebration.
Additionally, he called upon all Nigerians to collaborate with the administration led by President Bola Tinubu in its commitment to achieving sustainable development and prosperity for all citizens.
