Eagles Soar Past Commanders to Secure Super Bowl Berth with Dominant 55-23 Victory

Saquon Barkley electrified the crowd with a 60-yard touchdown run on the first play of the game and capped a stellar performance with 118 rushing yards and three scores, leading the Philadelphia Eagles to a commanding 55-23 win over the Washington Commanders in the NFC Championship on Sunday.

Quarterback Jalen Hurts added three rushing touchdowns, threw for 246 yards, and delivered a touchdown pass, propelling the Eagles to their second Super Bowl appearance in three seasons. This time, Barkley joins the ride, as Philadelphia awaits a matchup with either the Buffalo Bills or Andy Reid’s Kansas City Chiefs.

“I won’t lie—I tried to downplay it, but it’s amazing, man. We’re here. The Super Bowl,” Barkley said. “But getting there isn’t the goal. Winning it is. We’ll celebrate, but we’ll get back to work soon.”

The Eagles’ 55 points set a new record for the most scored in a conference championship game since the NFL-AFL merger in 1970.

“Jalen is a stud,” head coach Nick Sirianni said of his quarterback, who played with a brace on his left knee. “I knew he’d play like this. All he does is win. How about our quarterback?”

Wide receiver A.J. Brown contributed six catches for 96 yards and a touchdown, while the Eagles’ relentless offense thrilled the home crowd at Lincoln Financial Field and pushed the franchise to its fifth Super Bowl appearance.

The Commanders, coming off a dramatic upset over top-seeded Detroit, saw their Super Bowl hopes dashed by four turnovers, including a crucial third-quarter fumble by Austin Ekeler with Washington trailing 34-23.

Rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels, who threw for 255 yards, a touchdown, and one interception, reflected on the loss. “We believed we belonged here,” Daniels said. “For me, it was just another game. That’s how I approached it.”

The Eagles now shift their focus to the Super Bowl, eager to cap off a historic season with the ultimate victory.
