Mr. Godwin Emefiele, the former CBN Governor will appear in court on Tuesday, July 25, 2023 as fixed by the Lagos division of the Federal High Court after charges were filed by the Department of State Services (DSS) on July 13, 2023. 

The former CBN Governor is facing two counts of possession of a pump action rifle and 123 rounds of live cartridges. Emefiele was arrested by the DSS on June 10, 2023, after he was suspended by President Bola Tinubu. He has been in the custody of the DSS since then. The charges against Emefiele have been met with widespread condemnation from members of the public and civil society organisations.

They have accused the DSS of trumping up charges against Emefiele in order to keep him in detention. The DSS has denied these allegations. The arraignment of Emefiele is scheduled to take place before Justice Nicholas Oweibo.
