Dele Momodu Laments PDP’s Decline, Urges Urgent Reforms to Save Opposition

Chief Dele Momodu, has openly expressed his disillusionment with the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing deepening internal divisions and the party’s dwindling effectiveness as a viable opposition force.

Speaking during a live interview on the Broadcasting Corporation of Oyo State (BCOS) on Tuesday afternoon, Momodu delivered a frank and emotional critique of the PDP’s current state, warning that its inability to resolve internal conflicts could prove disastrous ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“My soul has left the PDP; only my body remains,” Momodu declared, underscoring his growing detachment from the party’s direction and leadership.

He lamented the ongoing disunity within the PDP, describing it as a significant threat to the party’s chances of mounting a credible challenge against the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

“If the PDP were united, it could easily defeat the APC in 2027. But too many forces, both from within and outside, are working tirelessly to undermine its potential,” he stated.

Momodu also accused the APC of orchestrating strategic defections from the PDP, alleging that these moves are designed to destabilize and fragment the opposition.

“The ruling party’s strategy is clear: they want to fragment and incapacitate the opposition, making it difficult for any meaningful resistance to emerge,” he said.

His comments come amid a wave of high-profile defections from the PDP to the APC, raising serious concerns about the PDP’s stability and prospects in the run-up to the next electoral cycle.

Political observers view Momodu’s remarks as reflective of broader dissatisfaction among party loyalists and influential stakeholders who are increasingly frustrated by the lack of cohesion, strategic direction, and visionary leadership within the PDP.

Momodu’s call serves as both a warning and a plea: unless the PDP urgently undertakes internal reforms and builds a unified front, it risks losing its relevance as Nigeria’s foremost opposition party.
