The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has resumed sales of premium motor spirit (PMS) in naira, less than 24 hours after suspending the arrangement.
The reversal followed the intervention of Dr. Zacch Adedeji, Executive Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) and Chairman of the Naira for Crude Transaction Committee.
The federal government introduced the naira-for-crude initiative through the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) to guarantee crude oil supply for local refineries. However, the scheme has faced challenges due to limited crude availability.
On Friday, the refinery announced it would halt PMS sales in naira from Sunday, September 28, 2025, citing the exhaustion of its approved naira crude allocation. It explained that it had been selling products beyond the allotted quota and could no longer sustain the process.
In a swift U-turn, the refinery issued a fresh notice on Saturday confirming that naira sales would continue.
“Following the intervention of the Naira for Crude Transaction Committee Chairman, we are pleased to inform you of the resumption of PMS Sales in Naira commencing immediately. You may kindly proceed to place your orders in Naira for both self-collection and free delivery of PMS to the earlier advised locations across the country. Thank you for your continued patronage,” the notice read.
