Crystal Palace Stun Liverpool to Win First-Ever Community Shield

Crystal Palace pulled off another Wembley shock on Sunday, defeating Premier League champions Liverpool 3–2 on penalties after a 2–2 draw to lift the 2025 FA Community Shield.

FA Cup holders Palace, who claimed their first major trophy only three months ago by beating Manchester City, became the first club in 50 years to win the Shield on their debut, matching Derby County’s feat in 1975.

Goalkeeper Dean Henderson was the hero once again, saving penalties from Alexis Mac Allister and Harvey Elliott, while Mohamed Salah blazed over the bar. Substitute Justin Devenny, 21, sealed victory with a thunderous final spot-kick past Alisson Becker.

Liverpool, under new manager Arne Slot, looked sharp in attack with summer signings Hugo Ekitike, Florian Wirtz, Milos Kerkez and Jeremie Frimpong, but Palace’s resilience under Oliver Glasner told in the end.

After conceding twice in the first half due to defensive lapses, Palace rode out the pressure, with captain Marc Guehi producing another commanding display amid transfer interest from Liverpool. Henderson’s heroics at the same end where he shone in May’s FA Cup final completed another famous day for the south London club.
