CPC Designation: Tinubu Pledges Nigeria Will Prevail Over Terrorism

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration’s firm commitment to defeating terrorism and restoring lasting peace across Nigeria, assuring citizens and international partners that his government remains resolute in promoting security, unity, and economic growth.

Tinubu gave the assurance on Monday at the Council Chamber of the State House, Abuja, shortly before presiding over the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting and minutes after swearing in two new ministers.

It marked the President’s first public response since U.S. President Donald Trump re-designated Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern (CPC)” and directed the U.S. Department of War to prepare for possible military action to “take out Islamist terrorists” accused of targeting Christians.

Striking a composed and diplomatic tone, Tinubu said his administration was intensifying engagements with global partners to stabilise the country and counter security threats.

He stated:
“The most important thing is the fact that despite the political headwinds and the fear of our people, we will continue to engage with partners.
The success of the $2.3 billion Eurobond that was oversubscribed by 400 per cent is the most assuring.”

Reaffirming the government’s direction under the Renewed Hope Agenda, Tinubu noted:
“The task ahead is immense; we are engaging the world diplomatically, and we assure all of you that we will defeat terrorism in this country.”

He urged Nigerians not to lose hope, promising that security would be restored across all regions.
“Do we have problems? Yes. Are we challenged by terrorism? Yes. But we will defeat terrorism. We will overcome the CPC designation. Nigeria is one happy family.”

Tinubu also instructed ministers and government spokespersons to maintain consistency in their public communications and avoid conflicting messages.

He added that Nigeria welcomes the support of friendly nations as it scales up efforts to combat terrorism:
“We want our friends to help us as we step up our fight against terrorism, and we will eliminate it.”
