Morocco captain Achraf Hakimi was on Wednesday named the African men’s player of the year, capping a remarkable season in which he lifted the UEFA Champions League with Paris Saint-Germain.
The 27-year-old enjoyed a trophy-laden campaign, winning a fourth Ligue 1 title, the French Cup and the UEFA Super Cup. He also reached the final of the FIFA Club World Cup in New York, where PSG finished as runners-up. Hakimi beat two former winners Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah and Nigeria’s Victor Osimhen to secure the award for the first time in his career.
Hakimi’s win headlined a dominant night for Morocco at the CAF Awards 2025 held in Rabat, where compatriot Ghizlane Chebbak was named CAF Women’s Player of the Year. The ceremony celebrated Africa’s finest performers, drawing players, coaches and legends from across the continent and beyond.
Nigeria’s Chiamaka Nnadozie also shone on the night, retaining the CAF Women’s Goalkeeper of the Year award for the third straight year after helping the Super Falcons win the TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2024 title.
