In order to attend the annual meeting of world leaders, President Muhammadu Buhari will leave Abuja on Sunday for New York, United States to speak at United Nations General Assembly, (UNGA77).
“A watershed Moment: Transformative Solutions to Interlocking Challenges” is the theme of the 77th session, which began on Tuesday, September 13.
This year’s UNGA will focus on a number of important issues, including the conflict in Ukraine, the energy crisis, climate change, containing the COVID-19 pandemic, and a special summit on transforming education.
On Wednesday, September 21, on the second day of the General Debates, President Buhari will take the podium to deliver the National Statement.
Buhari will also participate in High Level meetings and side events including the Nigeria International Economic Partnership Forum (NIEPF), convened by Nigeria in partnership with the Business Council for International Understanding (BCIU); Strengthening Coordination through National Humanitarian Development Peace (NHDP) Framework: A practical approach to sustainable durable solutions to ensure no one is left behind, organised by the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development; and the EFCC-NEPAD Programme on combating Illicit Financial Flows.
While in New York, the president is expected to have important bilateral meetings with international leaders, eminent investors, and heads of multinational corporations.
The First Lady, Aisha Buhari, as well as certain governors, ministers, and senior government officials, would accompany Buhari.
The president is expected to return to the country on September 26.
