Bode George Laments Widespread Hardship in Nigeria

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain, Chief Bode George, has raised concern over Nigeria’s worsening economic hardship, describing the level of hunger and frustration across the country as alarming.

Speaking on Nigeria Info FM 99.3, the former Military Administrator of Ondo State said the situation has become so dire that even his own children, despite being university graduates, have been unable to secure employment.

“Today in Nigeria, everywhere there is hunger and anger. Forget about me being in the PDP, the base of the pyramid is what really matters. What have we done to positively impact the generality of Nigerians? There is so much anger in the land and there is so much hunger,” he lamented.

George urged President Bola Tinubu to create a special intervention fund to empower unemployed youths and artisans across the country. He said the initiative should include skill training programmes for unskilled youths and micro-credit facilities for graduates seeking to start small businesses.

“I suggested that Mr. President should set up a special fund to ensure that those guys who didn’t train in any skill can be empowered. Then micro-credit for young graduates who want to do one business or the other,” he added.

The PDP stalwart also faulted the recent appeal by First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu for public donations to build a national library, arguing that such funds should instead be channelled toward youth empowerment.

“Recently, the First Lady announced that she was going to build a national library and she needed contributions. That fund should have been by the President asking those in the banks those who donated ₦20 billion in two days to give that money, which will be public money, and process it through good management,” he said.

George further disclosed that his children remain unemployed due to perceived political bias.

“The younger generation in this country, including my own children who graduated a long time ago, have returned and tried to get a job, but they can’t get a job because their name is Bode George,” he stated.

He warned that the growing frustration among Nigerian youths could have grave consequences if not urgently addressed through meaningful economic reforms and job creation initiatives.
