Betta Edu Denies Involvement In Protests For Reinstatement

The suspended Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Betta Edu, distances herself from groups advocating for her reinstatement, stating that she did not authorize their actions. 
In a press release by her media aide, Rasheed Olanrewaju, on Monday, Edu asserted that she remains confident and committed to the government’s ongoing inquiry into the allegations against her.
She clarified that she did not sponsor any public activities, including prayers and protests, and urged those behind such actions to desist, ensuring an uninterrupted investigation process.
Call to Abolish Social Investment Programs
Legal practitioner Inibehe Effiong, speaking on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief on Monday, called for the abolition of N-Power and other social intervention programs under the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation.
Effiong argued that these programs have failed to effectively reduce poverty in Nigeria. He criticized the proposed N3 billion audit of the social register, describing it as scandalous.
According to Effiong, the social intervention schemes have not positively impacted poverty rates, inflation, or the purchasing power of Nigerians, urging their complete abolition.
APC Chieftain Supports EFCC Investigation on Betta Edu
Prominent APC figure Abayomi Nurain Mumuni urged Nigerians to support the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in its ongoing investigation into the alleged misappropriation of N583 million by Betta Edu.
In a statement released by his media aide, Rasheed Abubakar, over the weekend, Mumuni stressed the importance of allowing the EFCC to conduct its investigations without public interference.
He addressed the controversy surrounding Edu’s suspension, emphasizing the need for restraint in public discussions about President Bola Tinubu’s decision. Mumuni’s statement underscores the significance of the rule of law and the impartiality of investigative processes.
