In a significant ruling, on Friday, the Supreme Court has confirmed the election of Bala Mohammed, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), as the Governor of Bauchi State.
The apex court, endorsing the decision of the Court of Appeal, dismissed the appeal presented by Sadique Abubakar of the All Progressives Congress (APC), deeming it lacking in merit.
The Court of Appeal, in its judgment delivered in November, had previously affirmed Governor Bala Mohammed’s victory in the March 18 governorship election. This validation followed an earlier ruling by the tribunal upholding Mohammed’s success.
In the Court of Appeal’s unanimous judgment, the panel of three justices awarded no cost, ruling that each party involved in the matter should bear their respective costs.
Presiding over the proceedings, Justice Chidi Nwaoma Uwa read the judgment, addressing the appellant’s plea in a sequential manner.
The first plea by the appellant sought the nullification of the election, citing issues with the forms and booklets used during the electoral process.
The court ruled against the appellant, stating a failure to substantiate this allegation with the required evidence.
The Supreme Court, aligning with the prior decisions, affirmed Bala Mohammed’s victory, solidifying his position as the Bauchi State Governor.
