BANDITRY: Total Telecom Power Outage In Zamfara, Possible Extension To Other Neighbouring States

Zamfara State is in total media communications power outage after telecom administrators in the country complied with the Federal Government’s order to shut down all exercises in the state.
The order, which arrived late Friday night, was scarcely a half year after Federal Government additionally announced Zamfara a ‘no fly zone’.
The most recent order, as per Federal Government sources, is in a renewed action to battle banditry and diverse types of insecurity in Zamfara.
The Federal Government, through the Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC, wrote to all telecommunication operators in the country to stop extending services to Zamfara and environs, effective Friday, September 03, 2021.
The tone of the letter, signed by the Executive Vice Chairman of the Commission, Prof Umar Danbatta and addressed to the Chief Executives of all the telecom operators in the country, signifies that neighboring states to Zamfara like Sokoto, Kebbi, Niger, Kaduna, and Katsina, among others, may be affected by the telecom black-out, considering that signal to or from a telecom tower in Zamfara could extend services up to 45 miles away.
The recent development comes on the heels of a similar directive by  Governor Bello Matawalle who, last week, announced the closure of all weekly markets in the state as part of measures to address the worsening security situation in the state.
