Aviation unions under the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) have suspended their planned indefinite strike, earlier scheduled to begin on Monday, August 11, after making progress in salary negotiations with the Federal Government.
The decision was conveyed in a joint statement on Friday by AbdulRasaq Saidu (ANAP), Odinaka Igbokwe (NUATE), Frances Akinjole (ATSSSAN), and Alo Lawrence (AUPCTRE).
According to the unions, “unfavourable circumstances” had initially prompted them to issue a strike notice. However, they cited “positive developments” including the issuance of a “no objection” letter from the Budget Office to the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission as the basis for suspending the action.
NAMA management, they said, has assured staff that the revised remuneration will be paid alongside August salaries.
“In order to demonstrate good faith, our unions have taken the decision to defer the strike action… pending the state of affairs at the end of August, 2025,” the statement read.
The planned industrial action followed a seven-day ultimatum issued on July 31 over an eight-month delay in implementing a new salary structure.
