Utah authorities have released new surveillance footage of the suspect in the fatal shooting of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, showing a man descending from a rooftop at Utah Valley University, where officials believe the fatal shot was fired, before calmly walking away from the scene.
The footage was shown Thursday evening during a press briefing that included Utah Governor Spencer Cox and top federal officials. In a stern appeal, Cox urged the public to help identify the suspect, whom he called “an evil human.” “We cannot do our job without the public’s help right now,” Cox said, adding that state prosecutors are preparing to pursue the death penalty if the suspect is apprehended and charged.

FBI Intensifies Manhunt, Offers Major Reward
The FBI has announced a reward of up to $100,000 for information leading to the identification and arrest of the individual responsible. Although FBI Director Kash Patel stood alongside the governor during the news conference, he declined to speak or answer questions.
Earlier Thursday, federal and state authorities released multiple images of the person of interest, captured by campus surveillance cameras before and after the shooting. The suspect is seen wearing a baseball cap, sunglasses, Converse sneakers, and a shirt featuring an American flag print. He was also carrying a black backpack and left behind both shoe impressions and a palm print, according to investigators. “This suspect was wearing distinct clothing. We are hopeful someone will recognize him,” said a Utah Department of Public Safety spokesperson.

Weapon Believed to Be Used in Killing Recovered
As the manhunt intensifies, the FBI confirmed the recovery of the suspected murder weapon—a high-powered bolt-action Mauser .30-06 rifle—from a wooded area near the scene. The firearm was found wrapped in a towel, and sources say the location aligns with the suspect’s apparent escape route.
The gun, described as an older imported model, is undergoing forensic testing, but authorities believe it is the same weapon used in the attack.
So far, investigators have received over 7,000 public tips, conducted 200 interviews, and are working around the clock to track down the perpetrator, who is believed to be college-aged.
The killing of Kirk, founder of Turning Point USA and a prominent figure in conservative political circles, has shaken the country and prompted bipartisan calls for justice. Law enforcement agencies are urging anyone with relevant information to come forward as quickly as possible.
