Daniel Bwala, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Policy Communication, has advised former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to reconsider his political ambitions, suggesting it may not be his destiny to lead Nigeria.
Speaking on TVC’s Politics Hangout on Monday, Bwala pointed to Atiku’s six unsuccessful attempts at the presidency and urged him to seek other ways to contribute.
“If I have the opportunity to meet him face to face, I would say: ‘Your Excellency, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, you have to believe in destiny. God gives power to whomever He chooses, and it seems, from the facts on the ground, it may not have been God’s will for you to govern Nigeria,’” Bwala stated.
He encouraged Atiku to collaborate with Tinubu, describing them as longtime friends who could still work together to leave a lasting legacy.
Bwala warned that another presidential run in 2027 could bring disappointment, noting Atiku had lost up to 70% of his political base. On a potential alliance between Atiku and Peter Obi, Bwala cautioned that Obi risked losing his support if he accepted a secondary role, saying, “The minute Peter Obi drops the idea of running for president himself, I can guarantee you he will lose the majority of the people that are following him.”
Bwala also dismissed talks of a new political coalition ahead of 2027, asserting that Tinubu’s growing influence made such efforts ineffective.
