ASUU Condemns Alleged Victimization of Members in Public Universities

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has raised concerns over the alleged victimization, intimidation, harassment, and dehumanization of its members in several public universities across the country.

In a statement issued by the Kano Zonal Coordinator of ASUU, Professor Abdulkadir Mohammad, in Kano on Saturday, the union highlighted instances of disregard for due process and non-compliance with regulations that govern the Nigerian university system.

Professor Mohammad expressed deep concern over this troubling development, accusing university administrations, governing councils, and visitors (governors) of not acting in the best interest of public universities.

He specifically identified Kogi State University (KSU), Lagos State University (LASU), Ebonyi State University (EBSU), and Ambrose Alli University (AAU) as institutions where lecturers are allegedly being victimised. Additionally, he mentioned the Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO) and Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU) as other universities where ASUU members face similar challenges.
