The Deputy Senate President, Senator Barau Jibrin, has expressed confidence that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) will reclaim Kano State in the next election cycle. Jibrin made this assertion during the Senate’s screening of Yusuf Abdullahi Ata, nominated by President Bola Tinubu as Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development.
Ata, who appeared before the Senate Committee of the Whole on Wednesday, received high praise from Jibrin, who represents Kano North senatorial district. “Mr. Chairman, I don’t have much to say, but I want you all to know that this man (Ata) is a political juggernaut,” Jibrin remarked, adding that Ata’s reputation has even caused “threat” among colleagues. “He is like a round peg in a round hole, well-experienced and well-loved.”
Jibrin went on to assert, “Once confirmed, Kano will be taken over by the APC.” Currently, Kano, the most populous state in Northern Nigeria with over 15 million residents, is governed by the opposition New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP). Ata’s nomination by President Tinubu last week marks his potential entry into the cabinet as Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, with the Senate’s decision on his confirmation expected later today at plenary.
