APC Eyes Credible 2027 Primaries With E-Register Edge

The All Progressives Congress (APC) says it is well-prepared for credible primaries ahead of next year’s elections, attributing its readiness to a robust electronic membership register.

Speaking through his media aide, Abimbola Toki, APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, said the digital register provides real-time access to members, enabling efficient mobilisation and transparent candidate selection.

“Our electronic registration gives us real-time access to our members. We know who they are, where they live, and how to reach them. This allows us to mobilise efficiently and conduct credible primaries,” Yilwatda stated.

He noted that the APC operates without a Board of Trustees, with members funding operations through dues and contributions, giving them ownership of party affairs. The membership register has been linked to the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) to clean and validate data, remove duplicates, and strengthen accountability, with membership now approaching 10 million.

On the debate over direct versus indirect primaries, Yilwatda stressed that the integrity of the process matters more than the method itself. He highlighted the party’s record of conducting consensus, direct, and indirect primaries without post-primary litigation—a rare achievement in Nigeria’s political landscape.

Addressing defections into the APC, he said the trend reflects organisational strength and voter confidence rather than coercion, noting that “people move to where systems work.” With about 30 governorship seats and a strong National Assembly majority, APC continues to attract politicians from across the political spectrum, including the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Labour Party (LP).

Yilwatda reaffirmed the party’s commitment to internal democracy, transparency, and continuous reform, describing APC as a model for effective political organisation in Nigeria.
