The All Progressives Congress (APC) has vehemently rejected claims by Anambra-born businessman Prince Arthur Eze that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu endorsed Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State for a second term.
In a statement released over the weekend, the APC Enugu State Chapter described Eze’s assertion as a “misleading personal opinion driven by self-interest rather than political reality.”
The party’s Publicity Secretary, Mr. Titus Ezeagu, clarified that Prince Arthur Eze is not a member of the APC, nor a spokesperson or official in President Tinubu’s campaign or administration. He highlighted that Eze had openly opposed Tinubu’s presidential ambition during the 2023 elections, making his current claim disingenuous and opportunistic.
Ezeagu emphasized, “The President has not made any statement, public or private, endorsing any governor for a second term, including Governor Peter Mbah.”
The APC cautioned individuals like Eze against making pronouncements that could undermine Nigeria’s democratic and electoral processes. Ezeagu urged the businessman to focus on his business ventures instead of spreading propaganda that tarnishes the President’s image.
Further, the party accused Eze of attempting to prop up Governor Mbah’s administration using false claims, branding the move as an effort to sabotage democracy in Enugu and Nigeria at large.
Ezeagu also highlighted Eze’s historical association with military regimes that undermined Nigeria’s democracy and warned him to desist from garrison politics and disruptive statements in the current democratic era.
Calling on the media and public to view Eze’s remarks as his personal opinions, the APC reaffirmed its commitment to providing a credible political alternative in Enugu State. The party insisted that any endorsements for second-term candidates will emerge from the electoral process, not from media statements by individuals with questionable motives.
The statement reminded the public that Eze and Governor Mbah are known supporters of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), having worked together in the 2023 elections.
Finally, the APC expressed confidence in its leadership in Enugu under Chief Uche Nnaji and pledged continued support for President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, aiming to offer voters in Enugu a credible alternative to the PDP in the 2027 elections.
