The All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed recent rumors suggesting that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu may drop Vice President Kashim Shettima as his running mate for the 2027 general election. Party officials describe the speculation as unfounded and divisive.
Speaking on the matter, Dr. Ijeoma Arodiogbu, APC National Vice Chairman (South-East), emphasized the strong working relationship between the President and Vice President:
“I’m hearing that for the first time. There’s a solid working relationship between President Tinubu and Vice President Shettima,” Arodiogbu said. “Shettima is a key asset—intelligent, focused, and deeply involved in this administration. These rumors are political noise meant to create division.”
He noted that such rumors often surface during election preparations but assured that both the President and his deputy enjoy full confidence and support from party leadership.
Similarly, Daniel Bwala, Special Adviser to the President on Policy Communication, denied any plan to replace the Vice President:
“I am not aware, Sir,” Bwala stated.
These denials follow a major endorsement of President Tinubu at the APC National Summit held recently at the State House Banquet Hall in Abuja. During the summit, 22 governors, National Assembly leaders, and senior party members formally endorsed Tinubu as the sole APC presidential candidate for 2027. The motion was moved by Imo State Governor and Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum, Hope Uzodimma, seconded by Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani, and reinforced by Senate President Godswill Akpabio and House Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, who cited Tinubu’s performance as the basis for continuity.
Despite ongoing speculation about balancing regional interests or broadening the ticket’s appeal, the APC has no intention of changing its Vice Presidential candidate. The party remains united in its stance that no such alteration is planned for the 2027 ticket.
