Former Ogun State Governor Senator Ibikunle Amosun has defended his decision to terminate a contract with the Chinese firm Zhongshan Fucheng Industrial Investment Co. Ltd., stating that the firm’s claims were fraudulent.
This contract, initially signed in 2007 during Gbenga Daniel’s administration, was ended in 2016 under Amosun’s leadership.
Amosun’s defense came in response to allegations by Professor Pat Utomi, who claimed that Amosun’s contract cancellation caused him financial hardship and led to the suicide of a notable Ogun indigene. Utomi also criticized Amosun for his handling of the termination and the subsequent arbitration dispute.
Amosun clarified that the Ogun State House of Assembly had previously blacklisted Utomi due to his alleged involvement in dubious business practices. He accused Utomi of harboring resentment because he refused to cater to his “entitlement mentality.”
Describing Utomi’s post on social media, Amosun disclosed that he personally investigated Utomi’s activities after becoming governor. He found that a construction project managed by Utomi was inappropriate and suggested relocating it.
Amosun stressed that he made decisions based on legality and integrity and urged Nigerians to hold their leaders accountable. He warned against being swayed by misinformation and affirmed his commitment to serving Ogun State with dedication.
