Senate President Godswill Akpabio has dismissed reports suggesting that senators are plotting to impeach him. An online platform had claimed that the Department of State Services (DSS) had taken control of the National Assembly to prevent Akpabio’s impeachment. However, during plenary on Wednesday, Akpabio refuted the claims, stating that those behind the report might be seeking revenue through increased website traffic.
“They said DSS has surrounded the National Assembly to possibly stop the impeachment of principal officers,” Akpabio said. “There is no limit to what social media can do. We are sitting here doing our work peacefully, unaware of the mischief.”
The Senate President emphasized that the report was false and referred the matter to the Senate Committee on Special Duties for investigation, asking for a report to be submitted as soon as possible. He reiterated his hope that the public would recognize the story as “total fake news.”
