Senate President Godswill Akpabio has assured President Bola Ahmed Tinubu that his second term is secure despite opposition efforts ahead of the 2027 election.
Speaking at a special Iftar/Lent dinner organized by the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF) on Wednesday night in Abuja, Akpabio expressed confidence in the All Progressives Congress (APC) strengthening its political grip nationwide. The gathering, aimed at fostering unity within the party, was attended by governors, National Assembly members, ministers, and other top APC figures.
“We will offer prayers for our party, that yes, indeed, victory shall be ours in 2027. Can we say a loud amen! And we will also pray for Mr. President that his second term is assured. Can we shout a loud amen!” Akpabio declared.
He urged party members to work collectively to secure victory while commending the PGF, led by Governor Hope Uzodinma, for organizing the event.
Uzodinma underscored the importance of party unity, stating that governance comes with challenges that require collective responsibility.
“As we work towards a more prosperous Nigeria, as we confront the challenges of leadership and governance, it is like a sweet and sour soup. Sometimes it is sweet, sometimes it looks bitter and sour, but at the end of the day, it is a food we must all eat,” he said.
Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Chief Wale Edun, highlighted the administration’s economic progress, pointing to declining inflation, lower food and energy prices, and a stabilized exchange rate as signs of improvement under Tinubu’s leadership.
“We are all living it. Inflation is down, food prices are coming down, energy prices are coming down, the exchange rate is stable,” Edun stated, reaffirming the government’s commitment to supporting vulnerable Nigerians.
The high-profile event drew key political figures, including National Security Adviser Malam Nuhu Ribadu, Governors Lucky Aiyedatiwa, Monday Okpebholo, and Francis Nwifuru. Also in attendance were former Governor Yahaya Bello, former Secretary to the Government of the Federation Boss Mustapha, Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Benjamin Kalu, House Leader Prof. Julius Ihonvbere, APC state and FCT chairmen, and members of the Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje-led National Working Committee (NWC).
