An Air India flight bound for London Gatwick crashed shortly after take-off from Ahmedabad airport in western India, with more than 200 passengers reportedly on board, according to preliminary reports.
The airline confirmed the incident in a brief statement: “Flight AI171, operating Ahmedabad–London Gatwick, was involved in an incident today.” Further details have not yet been released.
Flight tracking data from Flightradar24 shows that the aircraft’s last signal was recorded at an altitude of just 625 feet (190 meters), indicating it may have gone down just seconds after departure. The plane is believed to have crashed in a densely populated residential area near the airport.
Emergency response teams, including firefighters and rescue crews, have been dispatched to the scene. Eyewitnesses reported thick black smoke rising from the area, and local media suggest several homes may have been hit in the crash.
Authorities have not yet confirmed the number of casualties or injuries, but rescue operations remain underway as officials work to assess the scale of the disaster.
