Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has approved a major shakeup at Kano Pillars Football Club, appointing former Super Eagles captain, Ahmed Musa, as the club’s new General Manager.
The announcement, made on Friday by the Governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, follows the expiration of the outgoing board’s one-year tenure and comes ahead of preparations for the 2025/2026 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season.
The move is part of the administration’s renewed effort to reposition Kano Pillars, one of Nigeria’s most iconic football clubs. The outgoing board led the team to a 9th-place finish in the just-concluded NPFL season.
In the reconstitution, most of the previous board members were retained, with new faces added to inject fresh energy into the club’s management. The new 17-member board will be chaired by Ali Muhammad Umar (Nayara), and includes notable figures such as Salisu Mohammed Kosawa, Yusuf Danladi (Andy Cole), Idris Malikawa Garu, and Muhammad Ibrahim (Hassan West).
The appointment of Ahmed Musa, who once played for Kano Pillars and had a storied international career representing Nigeria and playing in top global leagues, marks a strategic and symbolic step for the club. His return in a leadership role is expected to bring professionalism, renewed vision, and global attention to the team.
Governor Yusuf said the decision reflects a desire to blend administrative competence with footballing experience, expressing optimism that Musa’s involvement will inspire players, attract investment, and energize the fan base.
“The inclusion of Ahmed Musa reflects our desire to blend administrative competence with football experience. We believe his presence will inspire players, attract investment, and rekindle supporters’ enthusiasm,” the governor stated.
The club, widely regarded as one of Nigeria’s most decorated, is now set for major reforms both on and off the pitch under its new leadership.
